1. Game and second set - Alcarazpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 7 July 2024

    *Alcaraz 6-3 6-4 Humbert

That is a real sickener for Ugo Humbert! But it's brilliant from Carlos Alcaraz.

A well-placed drop shot brings Humbert to the net, the Frenchman gets it back but Alcaraz can pick his spot to take it to deuce and he then forces a break point - and a set point.

Humbert is in control of the point throughout but never does quite enough to finish it off as Alcaraz scrambles from one side to the other.

Finally, Humbert has a fairly straightforward volley at the net to win it but he puts it long and Alacraz steals a set in which he was on the back foot pretty much throughout!

  2. Keys to serve for the matchpublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 7 July 2024

    Paolini 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 2-5 Keys*

Jasmine Paolini is looking increasingly frustrated with herself on serve. It's not looking as comfortable as it did two sets ago.

She skews one long to hand Madison Keys a break point and the American accepts it gratefully with a pummelled forehand to the corner of the court.

She's a double break up and the energy from the Italian seventh seed seems to have just deserted her at the moment.

Ugo Humbert is one coolheaded figure. I've hardly seen an ounce of emotion from the Frenchman.

He strolls around looking so relaxed in between points - it almost looks like he doesn't care.

The 16th seed's tennis is telling a different story, though. He's causing a lot more problems now for Carlos Alcaraz.

Under so much pressure on serve during this set, Carlos Alcaraz will be thrilled to get a simple one.

He holds to love and, as well as he's played in the past half an hour or so, Ugo Humbert will now serve to stay in the second set.

Ugo Humbert's attitude has been first class, he is playing some great tennis.

It would be pretty easy to get frustrated when you are playing well and not getting the rewards but he is sticking in, focused on each and every point.

    Ugo Humbert holds to love.

A lightning quick service game for the Frenchman is ended by an ace as he goes down the middle to wrong-foot Carlos Alcaraz who was already on his way out wide.

Paolini cannot really afford to miss those chances when they present themselves.

Keys has been gaining in form. Her second set was progressive and she’s carrying that aggressive tennis in the third set.

Ugo Humbert has been very effective when he has got a look at the second serve.

He is playing really well but just hasn't had anything to show for it.

When Carlos Alcaraz wrapped up the first set in such fine style, it looked difficult to see how Ugo Humbert could really threaten him.

However, the 16th seed has really upped his game in this second set and again takes Alcaraz to deuce with some strong groundstrokes before picking his moments to come in and finish points off at the net.

Still he can't find the break, though. Alcaraz is showing great resilience - and no little skill of his own - to withstand the Frenchman's pressure on his serve.

Madison Keys sneaks ahead in this match with an impressive break. Jasmine Paolini just can't get her racquet to Keys' powerful forehand.

Paolini mutters to herself as she trudges back to her chair. Given the way the last two sets have gone this could still go anywhere.

Ugo Humbert responds well to the disappointment of the previous game with a solid hold to 15.

Can he now put more pressure on the Carlos Alcaraz serve?

What a missed opportunity for Ugo Humbert.

That could have helped him get more backing from the Centre Court crowd, who always like an underdog.

Apart from that sublime drop shot a little while ago, the Frenchman hasn't given them much to cheer about.

    They remain firmly behind Carlitos.

Ugo Humbert keeps coming at Carlos Alcaraz but the Spaniard keeps him at bay every time.

Four big serves on break points help with Humbert sensing now is the time he has to push and going after Alcaraz's second serve.

An ace makes it advantage Alcaraz and when Humbert goes long, a game lasting nearly 10 minutes ends with a hold for the defending champion.

    What a set point.

Absolutely going for broke in that point and just a brilliant drop volley to finish.

    Paolini 6-3 6-7 (6-8) Keys

    This time she takes it!

What a fightback from Jasmine Paolini. She was 5-1 down and saved set points in the match before just losing the tie-break.

Huge for Madison Keys! She seals the set with a backhand volley after a brilliant rally.

This has set us up for a scintillating deciding set.

  20. Break point chance for Humbertpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 7 July 2024

    Alcaraz 6-3 2-2 Humbert*

    So nearly for Ugo Humbert!

He brings up his first break point of the match and plays a very good point, getting himself into a good position in the rally.

But the Frenchman puts just too much on his backhand trying to finish it off and it goes long.
