    That is unbelievable!

Jasmine Paolini is practically doing shuttle runs along the baseline but she defends incredibly to power a backhand winner down the line.

A few people on Court One even stand to applaud that point.

Carlos Alcaraz turns up the heat.

He's been trundling along in this first set without too much trouble, but he wants the job done and dusted so he's decided to bring out that brutal forehand.

It brings up a set point and it's not long until he shakes a clenched fist towards his box.

From the last match, I felt he would have come off the court and got together with his team.

It was a little untidy against Tiafoe but not every match can you play your best tennis but that can be the match where it turns for Alcaraz and he can get his head down and work for the title.

  4. Game and first set - Alcarazpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 7 July 2024

    *Alcaraz 6-3 Humbert

Carlos Alcaraz takes the first set.

A relatively slow start from the 21-year-old defending champion but he was firing on all cylinders by the end of it.

Ugo Humbert saved one set point with a big serve out wide but another fizzing forehand from Alacaraz brings up another and his French opponent nets a backhand to hand him the set.

Carlos Alcaraz is feeling it now.

He is pushed well wide of the tramlines by Ugo Humbert's cross-court forehand but the French Open champion crushes a backhand down the line, just finding the corner.

A thumping forehand then puts him up 0-30. Can Humbert cling on?

    Incredible stuff from Jasmine Paolini!

The Italian breaks for the second time to now serve to pull herself level.

What an effort and Court One responds to every fist pump.

What a match on Court One!

It looked like Jasmine Paolini was down and out of the second set but she has come roaring back into this.

Having saved two set points she held to 30 then recovered the break, placing her forehand return on Madison Keys' toes and the American could only find the net.

The Italian seventh seed has got the energy back up, shouting and fist pumping each point she wins and it is working. From 5-2 to 5-4. Surely not...

Wowzers. Unbelievable forehand from Carlos Alcaraz. Cross-court and clocked at 107mph.

No chance for Ugo Humbert but the Frenchman gives Alcaraz a taste of his own medicine with a sizzling return on the very next point.

That is the only blip of a comfortable service game for the Spaniard, though, and Humbert will now serve to stay in the set.

    Sign

Carlos Alcaraz. Emma Raducanu. Coco Gauff... Centre Court is a heck of a place to be today with that ensemble cast.

But Agostino Lanave and his friend want to swap their two Centre Court tickets for a pair on Court One.

Agostino has arrived with a plea for an exchange stuck on his chest.

    Why?

"We are Italian. We want to see Jannik Sinner," explains Agostino, who lives in Budapest now and is over in London for Wimbledon.

"With Raducanu on Centre, we hope somebody will swap with us. Everyone would be happy. Fingers crossed."

While lots of people had stopped him for photographs, Agostino had not managed to convince anyone to do a deal.

So if you're out and about at the All England Club and fancy it, keep your eyes peeled for him...

Good, solid hold from Ugo Humbert.

A bit of serve-and-volley action from the French number one takes him to 40-15 and although he goes long on the next point, he doesn't panic and closes out the game to 30.

  13. Paolini saves set pointspublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 7 July 2024

    *Paolini 6-3 2-5 Keys

    What. A. Point.

Madison Keys has managed to secure the double break and serving for the set looked well on her way to levelling the match at 40-15 but Paolini is not giving up that easily.

A lengthy rally ends at the net with both players volleying from all angles but Paolini's passing forehand volley is enough to win the point.

From set point to break point...

And she takes it! A long way back for the Italian but she's hanging on in there in this second set.

Ugo Humbert's sumptuous return down the line gives him hope of an immediate break back at 0-30.

Three quick and easy points put Carlos Alcaraz back in control but his misjudged drop shot then finds the net. Deuce.

That doesn't stop the 21-year-old trying it again and this time it works. Humbert goes long on the next point and the break is consolidated for Alcaraz.

Finally Madison Keys is finding her rhythm from the back of the court and she's hurting Paolini a lot more from the ground strokes.

That has been giving her that boost of confidence and is having the direct effect on her serve as well.

Well it's taken Madison Keys a whole set to find her groove but find it she has. She secures the break to take a lead in the set.

Thunder rumbles outside as the American consolidates the break with an impressive hold to love.

She has experience in this tournament having reached the quarter-finals here twice before and Jasmine Paolini is going to have to find a way to counter that.
