Derry woman Aileen Reid second at World Cup event in Hungary

Derry triathlete Aileen Reid produced another impressive performance as she finished second in Sunday's World Cup event in Hungary.

Competing in Tiszaujvaros, Reid finished runner-up behind American Katie Hursey who earned her second successive win in the World Cup series.

Hursey finished 27 seconds ahead of the Irish woman with Croatian Sara Vilic a further six seconds back in third.

"So pleased to be on the podium," said Reid on Twitter, external after Sunday's event.

Reid was in a group 16 seconds behind the leaders after the opening swim.

The Northern Ireland woman was 35 seconds adrift of leaders British duo Lucy Hall and Natalie Milne after the bike ride but Hursey, Reid and Vilic produced magnificent runs to quickly to the head of affairs.

The World Cup is a different competition to the World Championship series, when Reid is currently in 12th position overall.
