Wales' Manon Carpenter kept the lead in the 2015 British Mountain Bike Downhill Series with second place at Rhyd-y-Felin in round four.
Rachel Atherton, the World Cup leader, did close the gap with victory by more than 13 second, while Tahnee Seagrave was third.
But with Atherton having missed the British rounds one and three, Carpenter still retains a healthy advantage.
Atherton's brother, Gee, was second in the men's race behind Joseph Smith.
The British series is providing a bright spot for Carpenter, as the defending World Cup champion has endured a tough season so far in the international competition.
Carpenter won the World Championship and the World Cup in 2014
But the 22-year-old was disqualified in the last round at Leogang in Austria after misjudging her landing on the final jump and riding off course, having finished fourth in the previous round at Fort William, Scotland, following a late crash.
The British Series now stays in Wales, with the next race at Moelfre on 11-12 July and the final round being held on 19-20 September at Antur Stiniog.
