Serbia edged past Croatia to win their third straight Olympic title in the men's water polo.

Milos Cuk led the Serbs with three goals as they defeated Croatia 13-11 in Paris.

They become just the third team to win three consecutive golds after Great Britain (1908-1920) and Hungary (2000-2008).

Despite not finishing in the top three of a World Championships since 2017, Serbia have reached the podium at every Olympic Game since 1996.

They will be joined on the podium by the United States who defeated Hungary in a dramatic bronze medal match.

The Americans were 8-6 down with just three minutes left before they pulled back two crucial goals to force a penalty shootout, which they won 3-0.

Spain won their first gold medal in Olympic women's water polo by edging out Australia 11-9 in the Paris 2024 final.

Victory for Spain avenged final defeats at London 2012 and Tokyo 2020 where they lost to the USA both times.

Australia, inaugural champions at Sydney 2000, missed out on a first gold in 24 years but secured their first medal since bronze in London.

The USA failed to medal in women's water polo for the first time at the Olympics, falling to a thrilling 11-10 defeat by the Netherlands in the bronze-medal match.

Dutchwoman Sabrina van der Sloot scored the winning goal with less than a second on the clock.
