Summary

  1. Pick 11 - New York Jets select Olumuyiwa Fashanupublished at 02:28 26 April

    Tackle - Penn State

Instead of offering Aaron Rodgers more firepower, the New York Jets opt to try and beef up his protection with Penn State tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu.

The sexy dark horses last season after trading for Rodgers, they couldn't recover after losing their star man after just four snaps as they extended the longest play-off drought in the league.

Fashanu may be one for the future on the face of things, but that future could come sooner rather than later.

Only just turned 21, young JJ McCarthy makes the move into the NFL on the back of a National Championship with the Michigan Wolverines.

His numbers aren't stellar due to the run-first nature of Jim Harbaugh's squad, but he showed poise and bravery and made all the short and intermediate throws he was asked - similar to what many NFL quarterbacks do.

So he's not a highlight reel thrower, and is another QB built on the slender side, but he knows how to win games, big games, and that counts for a lot.

  4. Pick 10 - Minnesota Vikings select JJ McCarthypublished at 02:23 26 April

    Quarterback- Michigan

Our first trade of the night sees the Minnesota Vikings do a deal with the New York Jets to move up one spot and pick quarterback JJ McCarthy.

The Michigan man won the National Championship with the Wolverines last year, and although not flashy he's accurate and knows how to win big games.

The Vikings lost Kirk Cousins in the off-season and made sure they got their hands on McCarthy.

  5. 'We can do amazing things together' - Odunzepublished at 02:21 26 April

Wide receiver Rome Odunze after being drafted by the Chicago Bears alongside number one pick Caleb Williams to NFL Network: "I think we can do amazing things. It's going to take a lot of work, a lot of determination. I can tell he has the same determination as I do. He is special.

"I love you grandpa, thank you for all of the life lessons, I hope you enjoyed this moment as much as I did."

Last month at the NFL combine, wide receiver Rome Odunze was asked if he could land a plane in an emergency.

More of a test of his ability to deal with pressured situations than actually flying, he replied: "Absolutely not. We're going down. All souls have perished." His NFL career will certainly need a better ability to deal with adversity than that quote suggests.

Odunze, 21, arrives in the NFL after a 2023 season for the Washington Huskies where he scored 14 touchdowns and posted 1,428 receiving yards from his 13 matches.

During a match against the University of Arizona in September 2023, Odunze suffered a broken rib and punctured a lung during the match, but played on through those injuries for the rest of the season.

Odunze featured for the Huskies in the 2024 College Football National Playoff Championship, where they were beaten by the Michigan Wolverines before Odunze declared himself for the draft.

  7. 'My favourite player in the draft'published at 02:16 26 April

Former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Joel Klatt on Sky Sports: "He is my favourite player in the draft. The definition of a number one receiver is someone you know is going to catch the ball even when he is under pressure."

  8. 'The Bears have transformed their offence'published at 02:16 26 April

Former Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles scout Daniel Jeremiah on Sky Sports: "You talk about transforming an offense in one season. I don't know if there's ever been a bigger transformation as right now with the Bears."

  9. 'His arm strength is ridiculous'published at 02:13 26 April

Former Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles scout Daniel Jeremiah on Sky Sports on Michael Penix Jr: "The way the ball spins out of his hand is reminiscent of Joe Flacco. It is ridiculous arm strength. It looks like he is throwing a nerf ball, he's got a ridiculous arm. He's not getting on the field with Kirk Cousins right now."

  10. Pick 9 - Chicago Bears select Rome Odunzepublished at 02:13 26 April

    Wide receiver - Washington

It's all out attack from the Chicago Bears, who use their second pick of the night to supply Caleb Williams with an elite receiver to throw to at Soldier Field.

Some thought Rome Odunze was the top wideout in the draft, especially when it comes to tough contested catches - he's tough and that's a good sign for the NFL.

What a night for Chicago Bears fans.

  11. 'Penix can throw the ball where he wants'published at 02:12 26 April

Former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Kurt Warner to NFL Network: "You don't take a whole lot from the Combine. The one thing I took was the pace from Michael Penix. It's firm but soft. He can place the ball where he wants to and you never worry about it getting there. In the NFL, you've got to make those 15 to 35 yards consistently and Michael Penix can do that."

  12. Who is Michael Penix Jr?published at 02:11 26 April

    Quarterback - Washington

Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms on his Unbuttoned podcast:

"Michael Penix Jr is gunslinger but with an injury history. This guy throws the ball all over the lot and has a natural feel for the game and what throws to make that’s extremely impressive.

"You could argue he’s the best downfield thrower in the draft – again apart from Caleb Williams, who never misses anyone."

  13. Pick 8 - Atlanta Falcons select Michael Penix Jrpublished at 02:09 26 April

    Quarterback - Washington

Wow! The first big shock of the night sees the Atlanta Falcons select quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

The Falcons signed Kirk Cousins this off-season and guaranteed him $100m so you have to wonder when Penix will actually see the field.

  14. Who is JC Latham?published at 02:09 26 April

    Tackle - Alabama

Like Joe Alt, Latham is another mammoth tackle and comes out of the college football finishing school that is Alabama.

He stands at 6ft 6ins and has a massive arm and wing span – pash rushers will struggle to get past him.

Latham has also shed 20lbs in the off-season in a bid to get ‘NFL ready’.

The Titans need reinforcements on their offensive line, with young quarterback Will Levis looking to build on his rookie season.

  15. 'I had to let him know' - Lathampublished at 02:08 26 April

Tackle JC Latham after being drafted by the Tennessee Titans to NFL Network: "I had to let him know. A lot of excitement. I had to let him know, pick up the commissioner, a tradition.

"I just want to live up to the tradition of Alabama and show what we're all about. I'm ready."

  16. 'A glaring need for the Titans'published at 02:05 26 April

Former Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, and Philadelphia Eagles scout Daniel Jeremiah on Sky Sports: "This was a glaring need for the Tennesse Titans. Latham is a mammoth human being. He can be a big-time recruit, a big-time talent. I still think there is more there for him."

  17. Pick 7 - Tennessee Titans select JC Lathampublished at 02:03 26 April

    Tackle - Alabama

The Tennessee Titans badly needed some help in protecting their young quarterback Will Levis, as they were awful in allowing sacks last season.

JC Latham is a huge unit and can play a part in that protection.

Latham grabs Roger Goodell and lifts him up in a bear hug - he's obviously not got the memo about the commissioner's bad back...

  18. 'I want to show the athlete I can be' - Naberspublished at 01:59 26 April

Wide receiver Malik Nabers after being drafted to the New York Giants: "The inside of my jacket represents the people of LSU and my legacy there. A lot of good people there helped me.

"I'm just hoping to be the best team-mate I can be, be a part of the community and show the athlete I can be."

Last month, wide receiver Malik Nabers had dinner with the New York Giants and a move for Nabers to the Giants has seemed all but inevitable in this draft.

Earlier this evening, Nabers appeared at the draft with a red and blue handkerchief in his top pocket, the colours of the Giants, which hinted at a move to the Big Apple for the 20-year-old.

Nabers, born in Louisiana, represented his home state at college level, despite initially committing to Mississippi State.

After seven touchdowns in his first two years of college football combined, Nabers kicked on to another level in 2023, scoring 14 for the season.

With 3,003, Nabers is Louisiana's all-time leader for receiving yards.

  20. 'Nabers can make things happen'published at 01:55 26 April

Former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Joel Klatt on Sky Sports: "The Giants are the slowest team in the league. They now have the most electrifying receiver here, maybe not the most polished but he can run 60 yards and make things happen."
