Judd Trump will be happy with his night's work. Without being spectacular, he has opened up a four-frame lead on fellow seed Tom Ford.

They resume at 14:30 BST on Friday.

  4. Allen will 'feel pressure'published at 22:29 25 April

    Higgins 10-6 Jones

More from four-time world champion John Higgins speaking on BBC Four: "I was seeded to play Mark [Allen] anyway. I just have to look forward to playing him instead of thinking about anything else.

"It will be incredibly difficult but he is one of the guys who does not have a great record here. He has only been to two semi-finals but he is provisionally number one in the world so that tells you everything you need to know about Mark Allen. He will want to come here and win the event but he will feel pressure.

"I've done okay. If somebody said at the start of my career you'll win four world titles I'd have bitten their hand off. I am really enjoying it. I have been enjoying the tournament, practicing and hopefully the last 16. It'll be a sad day when it leaves here.

"It means everything, it has been a massive part of my life. There'll be players like Mark Allen thinking 'I want to win it at the Crucible' but I have, so happy days."

Four-time world champion John Higgins speaking on BBC Four: "I was in control. I still felt good but I missed a few and I didn't know why and I was thinking 'oh no, don't do this again'. He [Jamie Jones] is like a streetfighter on the table and never gives in. He still fancied winning and felt he could win so it was a big frame to win.

"I feel good. I changed cues before I came here. I know people would say that is crazy but I just felt as if I needed a more solid tip and it feels very good.

"I felt I found a good bit of form from 5-4 to 8-5. Mark Allen will be an incredibly tough game but I am up for the fight."

  6. 'There is plenty left in the tank'published at 22:18 25 April

    Higgins 10-6 Jones

    Ken Doherty
1997 world champion on BBC Four

It was a struggle for John to get over the line but he is into the next round and has a mouth-watering clash with Mark Allen.

John was never going to panic. It took him a while to get into the match but once he got going his confidence came back. It was a good run out for him.

He will be relieved but I think there is plenty left in the tank. He's been very consistent but as a serial winner for so many years he is only interested in picking up silverware and he wants to get back to the top.

    Higgins 9-6 Jones

John Higgins is toiling. He goes in off and has left the red. Jamie Jones can't profit. Does anyone want to win this frame?

Finally Higgins knocks the red in but what a shot this would be to get on the yellow...in goes the brown.

He's been left with a horrible angle on the yellow which is on the top cushion and he drops it in. What a shot.

  12. Postpublished at 22:02 25 April

    Higgins 9-6 Jones

A really good hit from Jamie Jones but John Higgins puts him in another full-ball snooker.

The Welshman plays with pace but misses the red and clips the black. Oh my is this a free ball as well? The worst possible outcome for the qualifier.

If Jamie gets out of this and puts the red safe John has missed a chance to win this.

  14. Postpublished at 21:59 25 April

    Higgins 9-6 Jones

Could this be it? Jamie Jones wobbles a red in the right corner.

John Higgins has the option of just rolling this in or trying to move the remaining and very difficult red.

He rolls in red and black and then lays a snooker.

  15. Postpublished at 21:57 25 April

    Higgins 9-6 Jones

Jamie Jones has two open reds to go at and is still four points behind John Higgins.

He tries to get on one on the rail instead by smashing into the black but is well off target. Break over.

John Higgins puts him straight back in rattling the jaws of the top corner. He looks well off the assured figure he cut earlier.

Jones has been left right in among the balls.

  19. Trump takes chargepublished at 21:50 25 April
