Drug and drink driver who killed passenger jailed

Police said David Farrow had taken drugs and was drinking before the fatal collision

A man who drove a car into parked vehicles, killing one of his passengers and seriously injuring a teenage boy, has been jailed for 10 years.

David Farrow, 39, of Haltham Green, Gainsborough pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking and was sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court.

Lincolnshire Police said Farrow had taken drugs and had been drinking before the collision on 22 September.

Det Sgt James Perring said there were "no words" to describe Farrow's actions, which led to "the most devastating of consequences."

Before the crash in Riseholme Road, Gainsborough, Farrow was seen on CCTV mounting kerbs and driving through a red light.

Police said witnesses saw Farrow and a passenger running away from the wreckage after the Peugeot he was driving crashed into two parked cars.

Mark Turner, 38, was fatally injured and another passenger who was 15 years old at the time, suffered serious injuries in the collision.

Police said witnesses heard Farrow say he thought his passengers were dead as he fled.

The court heard Farrow was located and arrested soon after the collision.

Blood tests showed he had alcohol and drugs in his system when he was arrested, but police said it was not possible to determine the levels at the time he crashed.

He was sentenced to 10 years and eight months in prison, and disqualified from driving for 13 years and four months, by Judge House.

Det Sgt Perring said Farrow "took the car knowing he did not have permission and "ran from the scene, leaving his passengers in the rear seat seriously injured."

He added: "He will have known he was in no fit state to drive and the decisions he made have cost a 38-year-old man his life.”
