Thailand's political uncertainty 'could have been worse'

A Thai court has ordered Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to step down, after finding her guilty of abuse of power.

The move extends the country's political crisis, which had led to violent protests and brought the economy to a standstill.

Any further uncertainty on Thailand's political leadership could pose a threat to future investment. The economy is already being hurt by a slowdown in domestic demand and a slump in tourism.

However, Stephen Wilford, a director at Control Risks who advises companies on how to manage political risk, told the BBC that the uncertainty could have been much worse.
