India tackles food waste problem
Industrialised countries waste roughly twice as much food as developing countries.
But plenty of food is lost in developing countries too, usually because of a lack of proper storage and transport as food is moved from the farm to the market.
According to some estimates, nearly 40% of all fresh food produced in India perishes before it can get to customers.
This means lost income for small farmers and higher prices for consumers.
Shilpa Kannan in Delhi looks at what's being done to try and tackle the problem.
