Milburn: Poorer pupils should be paid to stay in school

A new report says universities should consider offering grants to sixth-formers from low-income families to encourage them to stay in education.

The recommendation has been made by the former Labour minister, Alan Milburn, who is now the government's adviser on social mobility.

Mr Milburn said money was often an important factor in determining whether a young person went on to higher education.
