Teachers strike: Gove condemns industrial action

The government has condemned a one-day strike by teachers which has led to the closure or part-closure of more than 2,000 schools in England.

The stoppage, in eastern, central and northern England, is part of a series of regional strikes by the NUT and the NASUWT over changes such as the introduction of performance-related pay.

Speaking at the Conservative Party conference, Education Secretary Michael Gove condemned the industrial action.
