Teachers hold Birmingham strike rally over pay

Thousands of teachers are holding a rally in Birmingham as part of a day of strike action that has seen schools close in the east of England, the Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside.

The strike by members of the NUT and NASUWT comes as a result of a row over pay, pensions and workloads.

The NASUWT's John Allison told the BBC's Ben Godfrey that the government was unwilling to negotiate, and vowed to stick to a programme of planned strike action.
