The government has denied it is trying to bypass legislation banning new grammar schools in England, after being criticised over a decision to approve plans for a new site in Kent.
The Education Secretary, Nicky Morgan, has insisted the selective school in Sevenoaks is a "genuine expansion" of an existing school in Tonbridge.
Labour says the move is a "hugely backward step" and at odds with government commitments to increase social mobility.
