First 'new' grammar school in 50 years to be built

The first "new" grammar school site for 50 years has been given the go-ahead and will open at Sevenoaks in Kent.

The academically selective school is being set up as an annexe to an existing grammar almost nine miles away, which means it escapes a legal ban on opening new grammar schools.

The decision has caused controversy, with Labour accusing ministers of bending the rules banning new grammars.
