Kurt Schwitters' 'eccentric' modern art

The German artist Kurt Schwitters was one of the fathers of modern art but he spent the last three years of his life living in poverty and obscurity in the Lake District.

He has since influenced figures from Sir Peter Blake to Damien Hirst, and he is now the subject of a major exhibition at Tate Britain.

The BBC's arts reporter Ian Youngs has been on the Schwitters trail to find out more about the artist's life.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme, external on Tuesday 28 January 2013.
