Artist Piet Mondrian's studio is recreated in Liverpool

The largest ever UK exhibition of work by the abstract painter Piet Mondrian has opened at Tate Liverpool.

Mondrian And His Studios commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Dutch artist's death, and as the name suggests includes a recreation of Mondrian's Parisian studio, which has never been shown in the UK before.

Piet Mondrian was born in the Netherlands in 1872 and became a pioneer of the abstract movement 30 or so years later.

The Tate's exhibition concentrates on his work from 1911, and includes three of the artist's most celebrated pieces; Compositions A, B and C, which have not been displayed together since they were made in 1920.

Dr Michael White is an expert on the inter-war avant-gardes and as well as writing many books on this period in the art world, has helped to co-curate the Tate Liverpool exhibition.

He showed BBC News around the exhibition.
