Obesity surgery rates soar on NHS
The number of NHS patients having surgery in order to lose weight has increased by nearly 800 per cent in just five years.
The figures show a rapid rise in the number of operations carried out for the most obese people in England.
The release of the statistics coincides with a study in the British Medical Journal which says the upsurge is in part due to patients becoming more aware of the option of surgery.
