NHS budget control by GPs 'not realistic'

The government is being urged to make 'significant changes' to its plans to restructure the NHS in England.

The Commons Health Committee has criticised the idea of giving GPs control over more than half of the NHS budget, with powers to commission services from private companies.

The committee's chairman, the Conservative MP Steven Dorrell, says other health professionals should also have a say.
