BMA warns of 'knee jerk' NHS financial decisions

The head of the British Medical Association, Hamish Meldrum, has told the BBC that he thinks some of the decisions on NHS savings have been "rushed and not very clearly thought through".

He also said, in an interview with the BBC's Branwen Jeffreys, that what ever problems the NHS faces it "needs everyone to work together to get the best results".

Under government plans, GPs and other clinicians will be given much more responsibility for spending the budget in England, while greater competition with the private sector will be encouraged.
