Andy Burnham: government 'needs to go further' on NHS

Shadow health secretary Andy Burnham has told the BBC the government needs to go further in implementing recommendations to put patients at the heart of the NHS.

He was reacting to an overhaul of the system in the wake of the Stafford Hospital scandal.

The package of measures in England includes a legal duty for NHS boards to be honest about mistakes.

However, Mr Burnham said the culture of the NHS would not be changed unless staffing problems were resolved first.
