Child heart surgery report 'not panacea for doing nothing'

The Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has suspended a decision to close three children's heart units.

The plan was proposed in a review of paediatric heart surgery in England and Wales which had suggested closing units in Leeds, Leicester and west London.

Mr Hunt said a report into the review had concluded that it was based on flawed data and left too many questions unanswered.

Lord Ribeiro is the chair of the Department of Health's Independent Reconfiguration Panel, which wrote the report.

He says change is still needed.
