NHS Direct 'got their sums wrong' on 111 service

A provider of a NHS non-emergency telephone service that is pulling out of its contracts "got its sums wrong" according to a health minister.

Lord Howe told BBC News that the service provided by NHS Direct to patients was "very good" and 111 is a "great idea".

He also said that areas where the service had not met expectations were "isolated".
