How dangerous is prescription drug driving?

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has warned motorists to check their medication before getting behind the wheel.

According to reports, one in eight people have driven whilst under the influence of prescription drugs, which can cause dangerous levels of drowsiness.

Ash Soni, a pharmacist and a board member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, warns that even over the counter drugs such as hay fever tablets, pain killers and cough medicine can have an effect.

He told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "Some of these drugs... can be quite potent and can make you feel a bit spaced out or weird."
