NHS Confederation: 'Unprecedented' pressures on A&E

England's accident and emergency departments are understaffed on average by nearly 10%, according to a BBC survey which found more than 1,200 vacancies for casualty doctors and nurses.

NHS leaders are also warning that emergency departments could reach breaking point this winter unless pressures on the service are addressed.
