Social workers need to tackle 'manipulative parents' - NSPCC

The NSPCC says social workers "need to deal more effectively with manipulative parents" following a damning report into child protection workers in Birmingham.

Social care workers, police and health professionals have been criticised in a serious case review into the death, in 2011, of two-year-old Keanu Williams.

The toddler was beaten to death by his mother Rebecca Shuttleworth. She was jailed for life in June.

David Tucker, from the NSPCC, said a "professional curiosity" was needed to get the full picture of what was happening.
