NHS maternity staffing levels 'not safe' - Labour

The government must "urgently" look at staffing levels in NHS maternity wards in England, a shadow health minister says.

A report by the National Audit Office found that a further 2,300 midwives are required. It also revealed that the NHS spends nearly £700 on clinical negligence cover for every live birth in England.

Labour's Luciana Berger said money should be spent on ensuring "safe staffing levels" for everyone.
