How winter wards help ease pressure on A&E

There has been an improvement in performance at all types of accident and emergency units across England against the main waiting target.

They are supposed to see and treat 95% of patients within four hours - last week they managed 92.4% - below the target but still the best figure since November.

Fiona Trott reports from the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, which has also seen an improvement.

She spoke to staff at the hospital about the use of winter wards and how they are easing pressure on other areas in the hospital including A&E.
