Russell Brand accused of 'brainwashing' young voters

Eighteen months ago Russell Brand said young people should purposefully not vote until their views are better represented by politicians.

The comedian Russell Brand has called for a "revolution" in politics.

With just weeks until a general election in the UK, Newsbeat asked thousands of potential young voters if they agreed of disagreed with Brand's stance.

Forty-four per cent disagreed with the statement: Russell Brand is right to say that people should not vote as a sign of protest.

Thirty-one per cent agreed, 25% said they didn't know.

It was one of a number of questions put to more than 6,000 18 to 24-year-olds by ComRes.

The interviews were carried out online in February 2015.
