Legal changes expected to the UK military covenant

The military covenant, which sets out the government's duty of care promised to armed forces members and their families, could be put on a "statutory basis" for the first time.

The BBC understands that an announcement will be made on Monday.

The measure is designed to answer concerns about the treatment of military personnel, especially after they leave the service but the current military covenant itself is not legally binding.
