Military covenant a 'positive move for the government'

A defence minister has indicated that the military covenant, which promises a duty of care to the Armed Forces, may be put on a formal legal footing.

A statement is expected on Monday on the matter, but it is unclear whether it would include specific pledges.

The former Chief of the General Staff, Lord Dannatt told the BBC it was "a positive move for the government", but warned "there's a little bit of a danger, that just putting it in law, the government could think this is job done".
