Mitchell: 'Fog of war' causing Libya confusion

One of Col Muammar Gaddafi's sons, Saif al-Islam, has appeared in Tripoli and claimed the government had "broken the backbone" of the rebel offensive there.

This comes a day after the rebels said they had him under arrest, and were negotiating for his transfer to the International Criminal Court.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, the UK International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell said despite the confusion over Saif al-Islam's purported arrest, the rebels were winning the battle against Colonel Gaddafi's forces.
