Human trafficking to UK on the rise

The latest government estimates suggest the number of people being trafficked into the UK and then used for sex, labour and domestic slavery is rising.

Last year the authorities learned of 946 victims, an increase from 710 in 2010.

The study, by several government departments, says organised criminal gangs are behind the illegal trade. Most of the victims come from China, Nigeria and eastern Europe.
