BBC: Entwistle 'was not forced out' says Lord Patten
BBC Trust chairman Lord Patten has said he did not force George Entwistle out of his post as Director General.
Mr Entwistle had come under mounting pressure over a report on the Newsnight programme which led to a former Conservative party treasurer, Lord Mcalpine, being wrongly implicated in allegations of child abuse.
The BBC and Newsnight were already under intense scrutiny for dropping an investigation into Jimmy Savile.
Speaking on the Andrew Marr Show, Lord Patten, said the BBC needed a thorough overhaul of its structure and management.
He also said he did not try to persuade Mr Entwistle to stay.
