Culture secretary Maria Miller on director general pay-off

Maria Miller has questioned the BBC's decision to pay George Entwistle a full year's salary following his resignation on Saturday.

The Culture Secretary said she believed the decision to give a £450,000 pay-off was "very difficult to justify" as value for money for licence fee payers.

When asked about Lord Patten's role as chairman of the BBC Trust, Ms Miller insisted that the BBC required a period of stability so that it could "get a grip" on the issue.
