Police appeal over Salford prison van ambush

Police in Manchester are appealing for information following the ambush of a prison van in which two prisoners escaped.

Ryan MacDonald, 20, was due to be sentenced on Tuesday for conspiracy to commit robbery. Stevie McMullen, 31, had been charged with a number of offences including conspiracy to kidnap, conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit arson and possession of a firearm.

Chief Superintendent Kevin Mulligan of Greater Manchester Police told reporters that the van was attacked by three men - one of whom is believed to have had a gun.
