A-level results: Clearing 'offers many opportunities'

There are "lots of opportunities" to find university places through the clearing system and students should take their time so as to avoid making "a rush decision", the head of the university admissions body Ucas has said.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Mary Curnock Cook said that universities had spare places on thousands of courses and wanted to welcome well-qualified students.

Her comments came as hundreds of thousands of students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland found out their A-level results.
