Letting agent admin fees - why the high cost?

Some tenants in England face fees of up to £900 when they take on a new lease - and all before they start paying any rent.

According to a Labour party survey, this figure includes deposit, administration fees and the cost of references and credit checks.

Earlier in the year, the Office of Fair Trading looked at 4,000 complaints made by tenants and landlords to Consumer Direct and found that nearly a third were about fees and charges.

So should letting agents be able to charge admin fees? BBC Radio 5 live's Chris Warburton put the question to Labour MP Jack Dromey and Ian Potter, managing director of the Association of Residential Letting Agents.
