Ex-BBC chief Thompson accuses BBC Trust of misleading MPs

The former director general of the BBC Mark Thompson has accused the BBC Trust, the body which represents the interests of licence fee payers, of misleading parliament about excessive payoffs to senior executives.

Mr Thompson claims he has evidence which shows that trust members including the chairman Lord Patten were aware of the payments.

The BBC has been widely criticised for paying £2m more than was contractually necessary to scores of senior executives who left the corporation.

David Sillito reports.
