Trust not told payments 'outside contract' - Lord Patten

Chairman of the BBC Trust Lord Patten has rejected claims by former director general Mark Thompson that he knew about controversial redundancy payments.

Lord Patten told the committee that he had understood that the pay-offs to senior executives were contractual rather than discretionary.
