Calls for debate on face-veils in public

Home Office minister Jeremy Browne has called for a "national conversation" on whether Muslim girls should be banned from wearing face-veils in public places.

Mr Browne said government had to strike a balance between protecting the freedoms of religious minorities while maintaining "an inclusive and cohesive society".

A judge in London has ruled that a Muslim woman must remove her veil if she were to give evidence in her trial.
