Runaway D-Day veteran's care home 'not surprised'

A World War Two veteran who disappeared from his nursing home to attend the D-Day commemorations in France is back in Britain.

Bernard Jordan, 89, left his care home in Hove unannounced at 10:30 BST on Thursday and was reported missing to Sussex Police that evening but was later found to be safe and well with other veterans in northern France.

Peter Curtis, chief executive of Gracewell Care Homes which runs The Pines where Mr Jordan lives, told the Today programme's James Naughtie that he was back safely and "on fine form" and has enjoyed a full English breakfast in the home.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Saturday 7 June.
