HS2 boss: 'It's nothing about trains, it's all about people'

The long process of scrutinising nearly 2,000 objections to the government's High Speed Two (HS2) rail bill has begun.

A committee of six MPs will spend months, maybe even years, hearing from groups and ordinary people whose lives will be impacted by the project.

Sir David Higgins, chairman of HS2, insisted to BBC Newsnight that the implantation of HS2 is "nothing about trains, it's all about people."

He claimed that the network would go some way to solving "a growing disparity in wealth, jobs and opportunity" between London and the rest of the country.
