Peter Clarke: Birmingham City Council knew of Muslim school plot

An official investigation into the running of some schools in Birmingham has found evidence of a "sustained" attempt to impose hardline Muslim views.

The inquiry was started after allegations of a so-called "Trojan Horse" plot by some Islamic extremists to influence the running of several schools in the city.

Peter Clarke, who headed the inquiry, criticised the Birmingham City Council for not doing more to combat the issue.

He said: "It's quite clear that they at least knew or suspected that these sort of things were happening for some considerable period of time, but didn't do enough to stop it."
