Civil partnerships: Heterosexual couple's court action

A couple went to court on Tuesday in a bid to make civil partnerships available to heterosexual people.

Rebecca Steinfeld, 33, and Charles Keidan, 38, want to formalise their relationship but they feel marriage is a patriarchal institution into which they do not wish to enter.

They argue that excluding heterosexual couples from the right to a civil partnership, which same-sex couples have been granted for the past decade, is discriminatory.

Clive Coleman reports from outside the high court.
