Rotherham Council 'not fit for purpose', report finds

A criminal investigation is to be launched after a highly critical report found that Rotherham Council was "not fit for purpose" over the way it handled child sexual exploitation cases.

The entire cabinet has resigned after the report said they were still failing to protect vulnerable children from harm, and that there was a culture of bullying, sexism and suppression at the council.

An investigation last year found that more than 1,400 children have been subjected to abuse in the South Yorkshire town over 16 years.

Alison Holt reports.
