Hillsborough inquests: Senior officer 'not best man for job'

The senior police officer in charge on the day of the Hillsborough disaster has told the inquest that he "probably wasn't the best man for the job."

Former Ch Supt David Duckenfield was in charge when 96 Liverpool fans were fatally crushed at Sheffield Wednesday's stadium.

Mr Duckenfield accepted that his experience of planning and policing football matches was "very limited," and said that in hindsight it had been a "serious mistake" to take on the role of match commander.
