Benefits Street star defends Channel 4 programme

One of the stars of Channel 4's new series of Benefits Street has defended her decision to take part in the programme.

Dorothy Taylor, who lives on Kingston Road, Stockton-on-Tees, said she thought the programme was "good" and had demonstrated the street's community spirit.

Local MP Alex Cunningham had written to residents asking them not to take part. He told Victoria Derbyshire that he feared some may be exploited.

Scenes from the programme are to be assessed by police after footage of apparent drug misuse and criminal activity was shown in the first episode.
