Plans for failing schools to be turned into academies

Plans to speed up the process of taking failing schools in England out of local authority control and turning them into academies are being put before MPs.

Up to 1,000 schools, including all those rated "inadequate" by Ofsted, could be affected.

The plans also controversially scrap the need for academy sponsors to consult local people on whether they should take over schools.

The BBC's Gillian Hargreaves reports.
