Benefit cuts 'hit sheltered housing'

The BBC has been told that the construction of thousands of homes in the sheltered housing sector has been delayed or cancelled, due to proposed government benefit cuts.

The properties, for elderly people or those with learning disabilities, tend to be more expensive because of the care support they provide.

But the government says those who need extra money can apply for discretionary payments.

The BBC's Michael Buchanan reports.
